Terms of use
Last updated 11 October 2026.
Chesslit is a chess training site run by an individual based in the European Union. By creating an account or using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Your account
- You must be 16 or older to create an account.
- Give a real email address you control, and keep your password to yourself.
- An account is for one person. You are responsible for what happens under it.
- Choose a username that is not offensive and does not pretend to be someone else. We may change or remove a username that breaks this rule.
Fair use
Ratings, XP, streaks and leaderboards only mean something if they are earned. You agree not to:
- use scripts, bots or other automation to solve puzzles or collect XP
- submit results you did not produce, or tamper with what the site sends to our servers
- copy the puzzle collection or other content in bulk
- try to access other people's accounts or data, or to disrupt the service
- use the site for anything unlawful
We may reset the rating, XP or badges of an account that breaks these rules, or close it.
Your games
Games you submit for review remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them so that we can show you the review. Only submit games you are entitled to share.
Our content and the software we build on
- The puzzles come from the Lichess puzzle database, which Lichess releases into the public domain.
- Analysis is done by Stockfish, free software under the GNU General Public License version 3. Its source code is available here.
- The Chesslit name, design and written explanations belong to us. You may link to them and quote short passages, but not republish them as your own.
What the service is
- Chesslit is free to use at present. If we introduce paid plans, we will say clearly what they cost and what they include before you are asked to pay, and these terms will be updated.
- Features marked "Coming soon" describe what we intend to build. They are not a promise that a feature will arrive, or when.
- Engine evaluations and move labels are computer analysis at limited depth. They are a training aid and can be wrong.
- We try to keep the site running and your data safe, but we provide it as it is and cannot guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses or for loss of data arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
Ending your account
You can stop using Chesslit at any time and delete your account under Settings, or by writing to support@chesslit.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we ever shut the service down, we will give notice on the site first.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site develops. When a change matters, we will change the date at the top and tell account holders by email or on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use Chesslit after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the European Union and of the member state in which the operator is established. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country.
